Quest Targeting Tactics: A Guide to Performance-Based Web3 Acquisition
How to acquire and engage users with onchain quest experiences
If you are a protocol or project looking to drive user growth and engagement, this guide will walk you through how to launch effective quest-targeted campaigns with Quest Protocol and reach your goals.
What is questing targeting?
Quest targeting is a data-driven approach to user acquisition and engagement by targeting users based on their onchain activity and displaying quests on distribution channels they spend time on. By analyzing wallet addresses, you can draw valuable insights to create highly targeted marketing campaigns tailored to your project’s goals.
Some popular quest-targeting tactics include:
-
Activity boost: Drive quick transaction volume and activity on your project.
-
Lookalike audience: Attract audiences similar to your existing target users
-
Competitor Targeting: Win-over your competitor’s users with incentives
-
Nurture: Engage existing users to keep them activated
-
Winback: Engage users that left or have gone dormant
-
Upsell: Encourage users to increase their holdings with incremental, conditional quests
To achieve optimal results for your quest-targeted campaigns, it’s important to adopt the practice of continuously refining your quest strategies. The best way to do this is to experiment and launch multiple, mini-conditional quests. At Quest Protocol, we provide the easiest and most efficient tools to do that.

4 steps to launch a quest-targeted campaign
Creating a quest takes a few minutes and we broke it down into four simple steps. First head to Quest Terminal, the premium targeting platform where anyone can launch quests, no permission required.
1. Define the quest action
Depending on your project and goals, select the specific quest action you’d like the user to complete by specifying details like project, amount, token, and network.
To acquire more users, choose a simple onchain action that can reach more users, like choosing a popular token to swap. If you’d like to engage a smaller group of users or target experienced users, set the action as detailed as possible.
2. Select or create a custom audience
Quest Terminal comes with 10+ preset audience lists to choose from, or upload your custom csv list of audiences for the best results.
To target the right audience with precision, you can include or exclude any audience list that the quest will be available for.
Here are some common quest objectives and how the audience lists should be setup to achieve the goals:
Note that the public audience list is Quest Protocol’s distribution network of over 300,000+ onchain users on RabbitHole. The list is also pre-screened and filtered for sybil users.
3. Set the optimal token reward amount
There is an important balance to choosing how much you want to spend on a quest campaign and reward each user. Keeping gas fees in mind, here are some suggestions on token reward amounts based on the size of the eligible audience list:
-
Broad audience list: Set reward lower or equal to gas costs.
-
Narrow audience: Set reward higher than gas costs
-
Narrow and high quest capital required: Set reward significantly higher than gas costs.
4. Schedule and deploy!
The final step involves choosing your quest launch dates and effortlessly deploying the quest contract with just a few simple clicks. During the transaction deployment process, you'll deposit the required token rewards, which will be automatically distributed to users upon quest completion. At the end of the quest campaign, any remaining unused rewards will be returned to you for your next quest-targeted campaign!
