Brand remodeling, Layer2 launch, and Cyber's future plans at a glance
Original source: Cyber
Cyber social Layer2 is now officially launched on the mainnet, and developers are invited to work together to create applications that can change how people connect, create, earn and share value! Developers can start building by visiting our documentation .
To coincide with the launch of this Web3 Layer2 that goes beyond the financial field, we renamed CyberConnect to Cyber. This rebrand unifies our on-chain social protocol and developer-centric services while launching Link3 as an independent brand.
Cyber Social Layer 2 Mainnet Officially Launched
Today is an important day for us and the entire Web3 community as we continue to move forward in the huge potential of on-chain social. We are very excited to announce that in partnership with AltLayer, Cyber Social Layer2 is now live on the mainnet. Cyber enables developers to create applications that change the way people connect, create, earn, and share value.
To meet the unique needs of social applications—such as low fees, high TPS, and a seamless, Web2-like user experience—Cyber integrates Optimism’s OP Stack and specialized features developed by our team, including native AA and Passkey and Webauthn authentication, in addition to custom infrastructure secured by EigenLayer’s Active Verification Service (AVS).
Cyber and Optimism Superchain
Built on OP Stack, Cyber joins Base, Mode, and many existing and upcoming Layer2s to become part of the Optimism Superchain. Superchain is a second-layer chain ecosystem built on OP Stack open source technology, dedicated to creating a unified blockchain experience between multiple second-layer chains sharing the same codebase.
Joining Hyperchain will enable users of other chains in the ecosystem to access social data networks and applications on Cyber, embedding social functionality within the broader ecosystem while giving Cyber access to the entire on-chain economy and user base. As part of Hyperchain, Cyber will give back a portion of the revenue generated by its sorter to the Optimism Collective. By aligning with the vision of Hyperchain, Cyber commits to accelerating the adoption of Web3 in a collaborative way.
Partnering with AltLayer to Deploy Cyber in Plasma Mode
Through our partnership, AltLayer will be responsible for the technical release, ongoing management, operations, and future upgrades of the rollup chain.
With the help of AltLayer, Cyber becomes the first OP Plasma chain to be deployed to mainnet after Redstone, the official OP chain built by Lattice, the creator of the Plasma mode. Plasma mode enables OP Stack chains to leverage the Ethereum mainnet’s alternative Data Availability (DA) layer, drastically reducing their transaction costs while maintaining security. As a result, Cyber will enjoy high TPS while maintaining low fees. As OP Plasma does not currently support EigenDA as a DA layer, Cyber will migrate to EigenDA in the second half of 2024. This demonstrates Cyber’s commitment to innovating with state-of-the-art solutions while building on proven technology, with the support of leading infrastructure partners.
These infrastructure choices are designed to provide a secure and cost-effective alternative to centralized companies that provide free social experiences by leveraging user data.
Building a Social Layer2
Recognizing that other Layer2s also offer high TPS and low fees, Cyber differentiates itself by building custom protocols and advanced developer tooling specifically for social applications directly into the Layer2.
Our built-in CyberConnect protocol enables developers and applications to interact with social graph data. In addition, CyberDB, our cheap and efficient decentralized storage solution powered by EigenLayer AVS, enables applications to benefit from large-scale social data across the ecosystem. Integrating these solutions into Cyber's infrastructure simplifies the development process for developers.
Cyber provides users with a smooth Web2-like experience through native account abstraction and familiar authentication methods such as Passkey and Webauthn, enabling users to easily access their wallets through widely used methods such as FaceID. In addition, Cyber's smart accounts support Gas sponsorship, further reducing user barriers to use. By deploying on Cyber, developers can use all these customization features natively, making it easy to create social applications that provide a Web2-like experience while enjoying the advantages of Web3.
CyberConnect is now Cyber
This is not just a name change, but the next chapter in our story. We remain fully committed to supporting developers in creating innovative social applications that give users control over their identity and data and enable creators to expand their influence in a fairer, more direct, and truly decentralized way. This is just one step toward achieving that goal.
Over the years, the team behind CyberConnect has made significant contributions to the Web3 social space through our multi-chain Web3 social networking protocol and a range of infrastructure services. We have also launched some very cool consumer-facing products, such as Link3, a Web3 network application, and CyberWallet , an ERC-4337 compatible Smart Account Web3 wallet that has quickly become the industry's preferred account abstraction wallet.
These initiatives have brought us one step closer to realizing our vision of on-chain social, but they are only individual pieces of a larger puzzle. Now, with the launch of the social Layer2 Cyber, we are bringing all of these pieces together.
We have used our experience to launch a Layer2 specifically for developers, aiming to attract the masses and create social applications that merge the unique benefits of Web3 (such as data ownership) with the simplicity of traditional Web2 social applications. Cyber is not only for dedicated crypto enthusiasts, but also for those who are currently outside of Web3 and are simply looking for a better online experience.
Link3 as an Independent Brand
As part of our focused strategy, we will give Link3 room to grow independently. With our rebrand to Cyber, we will consolidate our developer-facing services under one brand with a new Layer2 at the core. This strategic shift allows Link3 to independently scale its Web3 professional network platform. This is not just a new chapter, but laying the foundation for the next generation of Web3 development.
What’s Next?
Mainnet Phase 1: Developer Mainnet
Over the next month, we will prioritize onboarding developers and projects to our ecosystem to ensure users have a joyful and fun experience during the upcoming Social Summer Mainnet event. We encourage developers who are actively building or considering building innovative social applications and infrastructure to join our Cyber ecosystem today!
We firmly believe that Cyber will become the Layer 2 for the next generation of social applications, so we have allocated millions of $CYBER tokens to grow the Cyber ecosystem. We have reserved $2 million in builder rewards for ecosystem contributors and completed the pilot round of our ecosystem rewards program, awarding 10 projects a total of $170,000 in $CYBER tokens before mainnet launch. Although the rewards for the pilot round have ended, we will continue to seek out and support developers in the ecosystem. We invite all developers to join us in building the first social Layer2!
As for non-developers, don’t worry — we haven’t forgotten about you. Follow us on X and Link3 to explore what you can do on Cyber and stay up to date on what’s coming. We’ve got materials and resources just for you! In the meantime, mint our commemorative NFT here!
