What Is dGEN1? Mobile Phone With An Ethereum Operating System And Promises Of Airdrops

Move over Solana Saga (and now Seeker); there is an Ethereum phone on the market. dGEN1 is the world’s first on-chain mobile to run the ethOS mobile operating system.

ethOS has built-in system-wide support for crypto investors with features such as a native wallet, a light node, and a Web3 messenger dApp.

The dGEN1 is a very futuristic-looking piece of kit. While not all of the specs have been released for it, the team has announced a few quirky features. ‘The Terminal’ is a secondary touchscreen for notifications and metadata, while ‘The Matrix’ is a customizable notification bar that runs along the bottom of the phone.

The phone’s side has two buttons and rubber grips for safer handling. The website also notes the inclusion of a laser built into the device. It is located on the top of the phone, next to the speaker. No further details have been given on its function besides being labelled ‘something fun’.

Solana Saga mobile from last year was a huge hit due to the 12+ tokens and NFT airdrops for those who purchased the units. Most notable was the 30 million BONK airdrop, which is worth over $500 at today’s value. That alone covered most of the cost of the Saga, which sold for $599.

At its peak, the BONK airdrop was worth $1200 during its all-time high in May this year. Two other notable airdrops were MANEKI and MEW. At this point, the airdrop value for the Saga far outweighs the original cost of the phone.

dGEN1 is doing something very cool regarding its upcoming airdrops for owners of these units. Their website has an airdrop dashboard showing which projects have committed to airdropping tokens to the phone holders. It also includes how many tokens have been given toward the airdrop and the dollar value, all updated in real-time.

The team has just recently opened the airdrop page for projects interested in collaborating with dGEN1. One of the leading projects on Base, DEGEN, has already committed 5 million tokens, currently worth over $37,000. Another Base project, GENOME has put forward 696,970 tokens, worth more than $4,800 as of right now.

Big Backing For The dGEN1 – Head Of Base Chain, Jesse Pollak, Has Purchased One Of The Ethereum Phones

The dGEN1 Twitter page is followed by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and the co-founder of Solana Labs, Toly. While this lends some credibility to the project in itself, the creator of the Base chain and recent Coinbase Board Executive appointee Jesse Pollak recently announced his purchase of the dGEN1.

Many believe that Base will fully support the phone to ensure its success rivals that of the Solana Saga unit.

In the comments of Jesse’s post saying that he has secured a dGEN1, many Base projects are replying to say that they will be committing tokens toward the phones airdrops.

The units are slated to ship in Spring 2025, so it will be interesting to monitor the airdrop dashboard as more projects come forward.
