    U.S. stocks have fluctuated between modest gains and losses since the minutes of the Federal Reserve's December meeting showed that nearly all policymakers saw increased upside risks to the inflation outlook, according to financial website Marketwatch. The latest minutes showed that Fed officials did not discuss a possible rate hike in December. Officials believe that if inflation remains high, the Fed could leave rates unchanged or ease monetary policy at a slower pace.

    The three major U.S. stock indexes closed mixed, the Nasdaq fell 0.06%, the S&P 500 index rose 0.16%, the Dow rose 0.25%. Chip stocks lower, AMD fell more than 4%, Micron Technology, TSMC fell more than 2%. Gold stocks rose, Kinross Gold, Erskine Gold rose more than 4%.

    BlackRock to cut about 1% of its workforce to realign resources and strategy
    On January 9, BlackRock (BLK.N) informed its employees that the company will cut about 1% of its workforce. The group entered into more than $25 billion in acquisition deals last year to expand its business in non-public market assets and data.   BlackRock President Rob Kapito and Chief Operating Officer Rob Goldstein told employees in a memo Wednesday that they plan to realign resources with strategy through the layoffs and other measures. The company has more than 21,000 employees, meaning about 200 will be affected.
